Squashed Spider

Oh, the sacrifices I make to maintain calm and order within the classroom. Today one of my girls raised her hand during our choral read and said, "Mrs. Jackson, there's a spider on my desk." Immediately about 15 children shriek, gasp, and jump out of their seats. This is something that happens a few times a year and it drives me crazy. So today I just went, "Look, it's not a big deal" and I squashed that spider with my bare hand! I didn't use a tissue or nothin'! Inside I was totally freakin' out... "Ew! Sick! I just touched a spider!!!" But I'm pretty sure my class thinks I'm totally brave. It was disgusting. But class was back in session within T minus 2 seconds, so it was worth it.

Holy heck! You are a brave little soul. I hope you washed thoroughly.

A few weeks ago I had a student come in from recess with a moth on her shoulder and everyone was freaking out. The moth fluttered off of her shoulder and onto the board. I announced, "If you don't like death, close your eyes." And then I smashed it real good with a book. Now you make me feel like weaksauce.

P.S. Your classroom is adorable and welcoming and it makes me want to learn.
